OPERATION DREAM DRESS 2010
For our second annual Operation Dream Dress Contest, we invited anyone with a passion for fashion to create a wedding gown that exemplifies the spirit of "cutting-edge classic." Hundreds of sketches poured in, and after several rounds of voting (thanks for your feedback!), the field was narrowed to five extraordinary dresses.
2010 WINNER - VANESSA TAPIA
Miami, Florida
Born in Quito, Ecuador, this Miami International University of Art & Design student describes her dress as “sensual and innocent, soft yet strong.” BRIDES’ editors were wowed by the multidirectional pleating, exotically beaded waistband, and dramatic draping showcased on the narrow-flare column skirt. Check out winner Vanessa Tapia's stunning gown on our December cover; the dress will be available at David's Bridal.
2010 Finalists
Lynsey Bullock
Dothan, Alabama
Retro femininity, an antique hue, and the fun high-low hemline capture Bullock’s vision and goal: to bring a little southern charm to the world of fashion.
Tara LaTour
Minneapolis, Minnesota
LaTour wanted to achieve a feeling of enchantment. Mission accomplished with her ethereal ombré gown featuring a raw-edged petal bodice.
Megan Lawless
Savannah, Georgia
Inspired by lingerie, Lawless elegantly mixed sheer black details—including a sweeping tulle sash—with ivory duchess satin in her bustier mermaid gown.
Kasia Wisniewski
Brooklyn, New York
Romantic without the ruffles is the look Wisniewski was going for. We love the silver shade and the old-Hollywood style, made modern with circular cutouts.
